ARC Car Classification Model

Our position is variety is needed to promote excitement, not fat rule-books.  Multiple marques pitted against each other, drivers from different “circles” all racing against each other is what will create an environment that’s challenging and exciting.  We will have fewer classes which directly effects the drivers, namely more classes equals more downtime, less racing, dilution of competition, and scant class variety.  Therefore, the ARC is keeping the number of classes to a minimum and encouraging classes based on competitiveness and excitement, not marque.

Summary

The ARC is open-wheeled, sports-racer, vintage, and full-bodied sedan friendly.  The classing system is designed to be competitive, allowing a driver to participate in another race series without making modifications to join the ARC racing series.  For 2005, we're simplifying the classing rules to be simpler, and aligned to NCRC's Time Trial classification method for folks that participate in both activities.

Classification

Our objective in classing the cars for the championship is to keep to no more than six classes for all the cars entered. This makes for a simple classification system and large fields of competitors for each class. We think this is the most fun.

The classes are: GTR, GT1, GT2, GT3, GT4, and Vintage

Most of the participant’s cars will be classified into GT1 through GT4 using the stock car weight to engine power definition established in the classification below, with non-OEM forced induction or engine displacement upgrade bumping the car up one class. Full purpose-built race cars, or street cars modified enough that they are essentially race cars, will be classed as GTR. Vintage cars earlier than 1975 will be in the Vintage class.

Re-Classification

At any time, a driver may elect to be re-classified upwards, or ARC may elect to reclassify a driver who clearly belongs in a higher or lower class. This is a mechanism to allow a driver to be re-positioned into another class, and is primarily an option for a driver that has modified his car and is likely to deliver lap times that are more appropriate for another class.

Late Entries

Drivers may enter the series anytime in the season.
